Synopsis
Laura becomes a nurse and returns to her small Kentucky town as the assistant to Dr. Lee. They are in love but Laura comes from a poor family and Lee's family is wealthy and snobbish, especially his sister Polly. Polly makes it appear Laura was unfaithful and says Lee doesn't want to see her anymore. Laura dates Ben, Polly's boyfriend, in revenge. However, Lee turns up and says he knew nothing of Polly's plot. Lee and Laura wed.

Synopsis
Steve and Ellen are engaged, but his small gas station doesn't earn enough to support them. He has a criminal record and can't find another job. Ellen wants Steve to ask her ex-boyfriend Tom for a job but Steve refuses and they break up. Tom's fiancee Pam accuses Ellen of trying to steal Tom back. Ellen and Steve meet Pam and Tom on the street and Steve punches Tom. Tom admits he and the other townspeople didn't give Steve a fair shake because of his past, but he now offers Steve a good job at his factory. Steve accepts and now he and Ellen can wed.

Synopsis
Kathy and Walt are engaged but he quits his job at a brokerage firm because he wants to be an artist. Kathy goes along with his plan even though it means their marriage has to be postponed. Walt is a failure as an artist and Kathy catches him in an embrace with her best friend Paula. Paula tells Kathy she just wanted to prove that Walt was a loser who is ruining Kathy’s life; they walk out, leaving Walt alone.
